* Ganamela @ Kuwait

Today i had to go to my office at 10am even though it was a Friday OFFDAY. My boss had called me yesterday evening and asked me to prepare some documents (Points to discuss) for his meeting at Sharjah on Sunday.I was there in my office today morning at 10am for about 2 hours digging out the old files from 2004 to 2005 to track some important papers for him. I dropped those papers at his home and drove back all the way home. On my way i was thinking of the big smile of my boss and his words "vinz, u are the best" wasnt he just pampering me.

While driving my stomach gave me small cramps which meant its hungry......So,on my way back i decided to have Chicken Biryani for lunch. So i went to my fav small mallu hotel at Abbasiya (I have always enjoyed their spicy recipes and the warm hospitality extended). While munching on the chicken thighs i over heard someone's conversation about a Ganamela at the Marina Hall @ the Touristic Park.

So, after lunch i thought of sneaking into the Hall to see if i could get a glimpse of the artists. To my surprise the whole parking lot was tightly packed and the only place i got to park was the pavement.It was really hard to park my small sedan car on the pavement but i did it all for the sake of the Ganamela.....

This show was organized as an ONAM show for the Gulf Malayalees here.

Good news:

• The enterence was free
• It seems there was also an Onam sadhya...but i didnt wana check on that.
• The security guy at the door was nice to me.......maybe he could read my mind.He just let me in and said in a Bengladeshi hindi "Andhar jayiyee Bhai"

This Ganamela was organized by the Saradhi Group-Kuwait. The Hall was thickly crowded and as soon as i entered i saw Jyotsana & Biju Narayan singing (Famous Playback malayalee singers). To my surprise i never expected such a function or never even heard about this program from anywhere/anyone (not even from my office where most of the issues/topics are discussed)......

i really enjoyed the Ganamela and the small comedy skits by Sajan Palluruthy & Abbi (Aminathatha fame).The orchestra guys were superb.....i laughed a lot today....the comedy skits were genuine, i enjoyed my day, i forgot that i was in Kuwait.......today my heart & soul travelled 10 years backward.........to those days i was in my college......the days i went out late night on my motorbike to watched those latenight Ganamela's/mimicri/movies at theatres.

In between the Ganamela, the crowd got so uncontrolable that i had to quit watching this show and run back home. While i was there, i was slightly wheezing & sweating heavily. The whole hall was hot like an oven....seems the A/C couldnt keep the hall cool any longer...the whole crowd was dancing when Biju Narayanan sang the song from FANAA (Chandsifarish.....). Thats my fav hindi song.........i had this song in my head for maybe 6 months after this movie got released.In those days i saw this movie twice from Kuwait (Metro Theatre Farwaniya)......oww........that song is in my head again.......i cant stop humming it.....

I felt pity for the committee guys with those big round badges on their shirt..they were helpless when the crowd got exited after each & every song.....luckily there were no fights but i could smell the local alcohol everywhere(white label arrack = Vattu Charayam specially brewed in Q8)........i guess majority of guys were boozed........

This Friday was a very special day as it gave me a nostalgic feeling......
i enjoyed the Ganamela....
and YES i saw Jyotsna & Biju Narayanan.......
that was a big surprise.
& luckily i got no traffic violation tickets for parking on the payment today.

i am now home and exhausted. I took a shower and had my dinner, watched tv for about 3 hours and now i'm in front of my computer blogging & browsing for another 3 hours.......
i think i'm feeling sleepy...
ow yes i am.........i'm yawning.....that was a big one....
hahaha.........i wana sleep...
